Here I Am Donating Myself To Science Fiction

I stood in line for an hour and a half to get Terry Pratchett's autograph for my daughters book. She thinks I'm a goddess. She might be right. My new friend I met on line emailed this picture of Terry and me. Enjoy.

Habit Forming Learning

I have ended at the beginning. Subliminally I did have the the end in mind. I wanted to finish this project, learn new things, and have fun. You will be pleased to know that I have indeed accomplished my objectives. I accepted responsibility for my own learning and I learned to blog and use the accompanying websites. I viewed my problems as challenges. That doesn't mean that I didn't grumble a time or two until I figured out this life lesson or want to kick flickr in it's domaine name. I just plowed on through by asking co-workers for help and noodleing about until I got it. Or as Cherry Evans said,"Oh you're just being clever." I did that a couple times and with dumb luck and perseverence I pulled through. It does help to have confidence in yourself because you don't give up. My toolbox is loaded with mentors who helped me along the way. Rodney Campbell, Chris Mitchell, and Sharyn Yenzer to name a few. Kudos too to the Terry Moran who sheduled time for me to work on this project:) I did use technology as I wrote before of my camera phone which helped me not fall behind when I was on vacation. But the greatest joy came from helping others over problem spots. To see the looks on their faces when flickr uploaded pictures or Rollyo finally worked. That was the best outcome of all.

Something Amazing This Way Comes

By some typing without thumbs, something amazing this way comes. I just downloaded the Bradbury classic Something Wicked This Way Comes using Maryland's Digital E-Library and the Overdrive Media Console. Like every library visit, I reserved a few and downloaded the rest. Quelle Fahrenheit 451. I really do like to be read to. I love having books at my fingertips.

To The Kindnesses of Co-Workers Thank You

When I entered the Information Highway for Maryland 23, I knew this would be an adventure. I've encountered roadblocks, potholes, and a few detours. But when all the elements for learning were in place, it was a beautiful ride. I've helped people along the way and to paraphrase Tennessee Williams, "I've depended on the kindnesses of co-workers." All in all, I wouldn't have missed this trip for the world.I entered this thank you note in the pb wiki sand box and now on my blog. Or to rephrase George M. Cohan..."My blog thanks you and I thank you. :)

In Search Of My Musical Soul

I played with the 2.0 awards lists today and I liked it. I found out I could mix drinks with cocktail builder.com, write hardback books with Lulu, make and share maps with Wayfaring but the site I loved best was Pandora. I went there, opened that website and discovered my musical soul. I created different radio stations to match my favorite performers and had a great time.

I Dream of a Library That Has Never Been and Say,"Why Not?"

I often say, "This is a great time to be a librarian!" Our access to information is cybersonic. We've come a long way from stained glass for learning. And Yet I want more. The Library has to be a gateway to information for our public. Our websites have to be top notch because patron accessability is everywhere. If our public needs information, I want the library and it webpages to be the first place they want to go. In reading the articles about library 2.0, I like the thought of removing our patron's barriers to information. I do not wish to smash my boat into the icebergs of outdated collections when I can use my computer to inform. In olden times I would have been called a traitor for such thoughts. We are farther down the information highway than I would ever have thought at the beginning.

My Circle of Friends Got Smaller

Agatha Christie once wrote, "You'll know when you're old when there's noone around who remembers when you were young." I lost another of those friends last week. I've known Kay Bates since I started at BCPL in 1979. What a friend. We acted together in BCPL skits and laughed together over life's lighter moments. I remember the first time she gave me directions to her house in Towson. You just turn by the Amy J. She made the sound of the letter J when she told me. She then went on to tell me how the o and the y in the Amy Joy doughnut sign had burned out. I shall miss my friend with the quick wit, and her bigger heart, her Scottish ways and the Staff Day skits where she asked for The Joy of Sex year after year.

The Results Are In This is My Movie

According to the Movie Quiz I took on someone's blog, Schindler's List is most compatible with my personality. The irony of this result lies in the fact that I have never seen this movie because I am afraid I would cry myself to death. Maybe I will finally be brave and watch this film. Wish me luck.

My Cell Phone and Maryland 23

My cell phone has been a great help on this project. I used the camera on my phone to take and email pictures on this project. The pictures that I took of Sneaks and myself were done with my camera phone. I then emailed them to my computer while I was away. Thanks to my phone I kept up with the project while having fun.

On a lighter note, I'm telling fortunes tonight at the Barnes and Noble in Pikesville for Harry as well. Me and Trelawney Great fun.

Sneaks meets Thoreau

Sneaks met Henry David Thoreau at Walden Pond the other day. As you can see from the photo, their discussion was very intense. When Sneaks got back into the car, he kept muttering, "Simplify, Simplify" and how we have to help the environment.

Sneaks seeks America and finds it.

As Paul Simon said, "We've all gone to look for America." Sneaks is no exception. I took this photo of him on Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. As you can see, he's one cool cat. That day, the world was definitely his sand box and he was truly happy.

Greetings Fellow Bloggers,
Sorry that I haven't blogged since the beginning of June. The picture you are viewing is a New England Barn from New Hampshire. I am leaving tomorrow to see my daughter and the barn in person. Fortunately, we have better accomodations once we get there. No wonder Waller didn't write the barns of Madison County. I will write more will i'm away because I'll have more time and my daughter technical expertise. Ps. I put this picture in from photo bucket.

Memoirs of an Amnesiac

This is my first foray in blogging. I started today because I am apart of Maryland 23. It is a project designed to bring the library world into the technological 21st century. These sentences are the first steps in my new journey down a different path of the Information Highway. I'll make new friends and answer the questions of my public as I'll know what blogging is too. This is it for now. If you're wondering about the title, its from an old biography of Oscar Levant. If you're wondering who he is. I'll tell you what any librarian would say. "Look It Up! :)
